Calvatia gigantaea!

Found six of them in my little outdoor mushroom nook where I'm trying to cultivate shiitake and maitake. The smallest was about fist sized and the largest was about a foot in diameter and about 5 pounds!

Fried them in olive oil last night for supper... added a touch of salt and some freshly ground pepper, yum! After they started to cool off, the smell and taste of the olive oil got a bit obnoxious so I didn't finish them all off. They have the consistency of fried tofu and a mild mushroom-y taste. I think if/when some more pop up, going to fry them in (much less) butter, put them on a bed of rice with a little soy sauce and maybe some fresh veggies (snap peas, broccoli, baby corn, carrots, hmm...) on the side too.
